According to El Pais, Nigeria has signed a 7.6 billion euro green hydrogen agreement with China. Once the project goes into operation, it will produce 1.2 million tons of green hydrogen derivatives annually and convert them into green methanol for export. The agreement was signed in Uyao, the capital of Akhuibom State in Nigeria, over the weekend. The signatories include the federal Government of Nigeria, APPL Hydrogen Limited (AHL), and the Chinese company Longi Green Energy Technology Co., LTD. (LGETCL). Nigeria's Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nagy, signed on behalf of the federal government. Idala Ekpo, Chief Vision Officer of APPL Hydrogen Energy Co., LTD., approved the agreement for the company. Francois Tri, Vice President of Longi (Europe), led the Chinese delegation to complete the transaction. Production capacity scale: It is planned to produce 1.2 million tons of green hydrogen derivatives annually, with a focus on converting them into green methanol for export. It is estimated that this will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 5 million tons each year.
Technology integration: By adopting Longi Green Energy's globally leading N-type TOPCon photovoltaic modules (with a laboratory conversion efficiency of 26.56%) and the new alkaline electrolyzer technology (energy consumption of 4.2-4.5kWh/Nm³ H), a complete industrial chain of "photovoltaic hydrogen production + chemical conversion" is constructed.
Location advantage: Relying on the policy dividends of the free trade zone, the project will be equipped with a 200MW photovoltaic power station and an electrolytic water hydrogen production system to achieve local consumption of renewable energy.
The project site is adjacent to Sany Heavy Industry's West Africa base (Abuja) and Longgong Machinery Parts Center (Lagos), forming a "clean energy + construction machinery" industrial cluster effect.
Idala Ekpo, the Chief Vision Officer of APPL Hydrogen, emphasized: "The project adopts a closed-loop water treatment system, which saves 60% of water compared to traditional fossil energy production. The ecological restoration project built in parallel will restore 200 hectares of mangroves."
Ekpo disclosed that the project adopts the fourth-generation electrolytic water hydrogen production technology, with an energy conversion efficiency reaching 75% to 80% of the industry-leading level. Longi's European technical team confirmed that it will introduce an intelligent photovoltaic hydrogen production system, achieving an 85% reduction in carbon emissions per unit of production capacity compared to traditional processes.
