At the meeting, China Energy Engineering Corporation's Zhongdian Engineering signed a cooperation agreement on the China Energy Engineering Corporation Shenyang Green Fuel Base Project with Kangping County, Shenyang City.
The China Energy Engineering Corporation Shenyang Wind-Solar Hydrogen Production Integrated Biomass Green Alcohol Oil Base Project is located in Kangping County, Shenyang City. It is planned to invest in the construction of a 500,000-ton annual biomass green alcohol oil project, with a 2GW centralized wind power system as supporting facilities. It is estimated that the annual demand for biomass will be approximately 3 million tons. The first phase will invest in the construction of a 100,000-ton green methanol project, and the second phase plans to invest in the construction of a 400,000-ton green aviation fuel project and others.

Relying on this project, China Energy Engineering Group CEC will fully promote the commencement of construction of the world's first 500,000-ton wind-solar hydrogen production integrated biomass green alcohol oil base project. The system is building a national-level demonstration project of "one chain, one Zone and one Base", namely the "Green and sustainable fuel Full Industrial Chain, New green near-zero carbon biomass Chemical Industry Park Demonstration Zone, and Northeast Asia International Green Fuel Production and Supply Base", to gather momentum and empower Shenyang to build itself into the "Hydrogen Capital of the North" and the "Energy Storage Capital".
Green hydrogen application starts with green methanol
Absorption has become the core issue for the implementation and promotion of green hydrogen. Green methanol has become the core breakthrough point for the consumption of green hydrogen.

Nigeria has signed a 7.6 billion euro green hydrogen agreement with China. Once the project goes into operation, it will produce 1.2 million tons of green hydrogen derivatives annually and convert them into green methanol for export. This marks an important step for Nigeria in its transition from fossil fuels to clean energy, and it will gradually achieve the energy transition in accordance with global best practices.
On the 27th, China Coal E Energy Chemical Company and Siding Engineering Co., Ltd. held a signing ceremony for the EPC general contracting contract of the public auxiliary works of the Liquid Sunshine Project in Taiyuan.
It is worth mentioning that due to reasons such as the cost of carbon capture, the current green methanol projects mainly adopt the biomass methanol process.
If biomass is coupled with green hydrogen to produce methanol, the cost will be reduced to a certain extent. Based on the calculation that a centralized photovoltaic power station in a solar energy class II resource area is equipped with 30% energy storage, the levelized cost per kilowatt-hour of photovoltaic power can reach 0.22 yuan. The direct cost of hydrogen production per thousand yuan by using alkaline electrolytic cell technology is approximately 16.96 yuan, which includes the cost of electrolytic cell allocation, direct electricity cost, fresh water cost, hydrogen transportation and storage cost, and also deducts the income from oxygen production. For every 1 kilogram of methanol produced, 0.125 kilograms of hydrogen are consumed. Based on the above hydrogen production cost, the cost of hydrogen consumption is approximately 2.12 yuan per kilogram. In addition to the cost of biomass pellets at 0.6 yuan per kilogram, the electricity cost for synthesizing methanol at 0.11 yuan per kilogram, and the cost of equipment investment allocation, etc., the total production cost of biomass coupled with green hydrogen to produce methanol is approximately 3,500 yuan per ton.
